|| General || § Waiting for the Photos

I'm waiting for the 6 rolls of slides I took on vacation to come back. Labor day presents a delay. I might not get them back before next Wednesday! And then I'll have to scan the interesting ones in myself because New Lab in S.F. charges $20/roll!

I did take some with my little Nikon 3100 digital, but not as many because the best times to take pictures turned out to be in low light situations. This digital camera has a small and slow lens, so anything in late afternoon tends to blur. Someday I'll be able to afford a real digital camera, but I'm waiting for the prices to come down below $500. I want to be able to use my existing Nikkor lenses. Right now the only camera that will take these lenses costs over $2K. So I may be waiting quite a while.

But in the meantime, here are a couple from our trip. The first is Victoria, B.C.; the second is Alert Bay, off Vancouver Island, B.C:

|| default || § Back From Vacation!

We're back! 3 weeks in Northern Washington and Vancouver Island B.C.
3100 miles, 300 pictures.

It will take awhile for me to organize everything into a web site, so stay tuned.
But we had an incredible time. The northeast coast of Vancouver, from Campbell River to Port Hardy is worth the trip. We could have stayed for weeks. So much to see.

But here's a picture from Port Angeles, WA. More to come.

Ron Reagan: The Case Against George W. Bush

The son of the fortieth president of the United States takes a hard look at the son of the forty-first and does not like what he sees

(in the Sept 2004 Esquire, on line at the link above)

"It may have been the guy in the hood teetering on the stool, electrodes clamped to his genitals. Or smirking Lynndie England and her leash. Maybe it was the smarmy memos tapped out by soft-fingered lawyers itching to justify such barbarism. The grudging, lunatic retreat of the neocons from their long-standing assertion that Saddam was in cahoots with Osama didn't hurt. Even the Enron audiotapes and their celebration of craven sociopathy likely played a part. As a result of all these displays and countless smaller ones, you could feel, a couple of months back, as summer spread across the country, the ground shifting beneath your feet. "

This is an incredible article! A must read.

|| General || § Going on Vacation!

Victoria and I are leaving Oakland Thursday and driving the camper North up to Port Angeles, WA and on to Vancouver Island, B.C.
The biggest issue is figuring out what to put in the van and where to put it. At this point I have no idea how we're going to be ready to leave on Thursday. We'll be gone 3 weeks.
We will NOT be taking a computer! But I will have my mobile ham radio (KG6EMF). But I will only be taking antennas for 20 meters, 17 meters, and 2 meters. Propagation has been terrible lately, but we'll give it a try. Its always fun to talk to people far away from our campsite.
Photos and videos to follow on our return.
