Shoelaces

Shoelaces

Luxembourg Gardens, Paris

It is interesting to think that these two are probably now in their forties. I hope they’ve had a great life so far. The older brother was retying the shoelaces of his sister. (But I have to assume they’re brother and sister .. at least I have ever since.) I took this picture quickly while walking thru the Gardens, which is really my most favorite place in Paris. But these two are now frozen in that moment. They don’t even know this photo, or I, exist. Someone more creative than me could probably derive a whole novel around just this moment. But everytime I look at this picture, I wonder about all the strange coincidences that led to that 1/80th of a second when the shutter snapped. 37 years later, where are they? What did they do next? What did I do next? But for just a brief moment we all breathed the same sweet air of Luxembourg Gardens in October.
