Here are some initial experiments using a borrowed Nikon LS-1000 scanner to scan in slides taken with my new camera.
Details:
Camera: Nikon N80 with 28-80mm zoom f3.5 Nikkor lens
Film: Mainly Fuji Astia 100 and Kodak Elite Chrome 200
Processing: by Custom Process in Berkeley
Futzing: Photoshop/Image Ready to crop and reduce image size to 4"x6" approx, color balance, sharpness, optimize for jpg, small file size. Minimal amount of tweaking. I used Adobe ImageReady to generate jpg files. I scanned the images at various dpi. I found that starting around 900 seemed to give reasonable results.
When/Where: On our European trip, June/July 2000

Sudden storm over Lake Como at Bellagio:

Here is the view from Aiguille du Midi (Mt Blanc), at around 11,000ft. It was 80F down in the Chamonix valley, but up here it was below freezing.

Yes, those are people heading down the glacier...
Venezia!
